Why Choose Our School
Family and Success Minded
We are a family oriented school. So this is the way we teach Martial Arts. We encourage family involvement in all Karate activities, even families training together. The aspects you will read about are what can happen over a lifetime of training. Truly everyone gains benefit from Martial Arts training, some even more than others.
We encourage every one of our students to strive for success. We encourage hard work and effort to achieve ones’ goals. We encourage people to set goals and reach for them. The sky is the limit, and it’s just a matter of how hard you are willing to work.
We Never Degrade our Students
Martial Arts training can be very challenging, which can make it very frustrating. Our feeling is that those that are made to feel small and not good about themselves will not continue to train, and in turn will never benefit from their experience. Especially with a curriculum such as ours that can be very demanding of a person, we offer encouragement along the way. We feel that when students are told when they are doing well, or that they are recognized for doing their best, they will be more likely to continue enjoying Martial Arts training. Even though we are very traditional in our style, we do not degrade anyone. We do, however, tell people when they are wrong, but then also show them what they are doing wrong, and how to correct it.
Self Discipline, Self Control, and Humility
Through traditional Martial Arts training one can develop many characteristics they can use outside of the dojo. Self Discipline is one of these characteristics. Those who develop this characteristic will become a better student, or a better employee, as they will be able to focus better. Those that have attention disorders can learn to control the problem without, or at least with fewer medications. Those that become impatient can become more patient people.
Self-control is another characteristic that can be developed through Martial Arts training. In today’s society people become impatient and angry very quickly, and many times over things that are really nothing to become that angry about. A good example of this is road rage. People become impatient and angry, and lose control of themselves, and let their anger take over them. We believe Martial Arts training can help with this. It is well known that a good sensei (teacher) will push their students until they think they are going to explode, and then ask for more. The will to quit intensifies from the anger, but then the benefit shows. This is similar to a drill instructor training soldiers for combat. We hope to build self-confidence and self-control at the same. However, we do not take it to the extreme of a drill sergeant, but we do challenge our students to a great degree. Some students become frustrated and angry at first, but many times so are the ones who truly succeed and learn from the lessons. Once a person develops discipline and self-control it will be much easier for that person to deal with all difficult situations.
Humility is essential in life. Those who brag about their achievements are trying to gain respect, but only for those achievements, not for the person they are. We believe students should use one title to address our black belt teachers, and that is "SENSEI". We feel there is no title which carries anymore responsibility in Martial Arts then being called Sensei. In today’s world the simple things many times are not enough to satisfy many people. Many people in the United States today rely on material items to show what they have or who they are. We strive to show people how being humble and not having a huge ego can be beneficial. This is not to say it is not good to have an ego because this is self-confidence, if it is kept in check. However, the Grandmasters of the Martial Arts that I respect the most are those who are willing to help and don't make people feel untouchable or uncomfortable.
Strength
Karate training develops ones’ mind and body so that it is strong and agile. Strong Karate training builds both, so that ones’ spirit is also made stronger. This helps build character and confidence in a person, so he/she can better handle difficult situations. Good physical fitness and health will lead to a longer, stronger, more fulfilling life, and we feel Karate is a great way to achieve this.
Unity
We believe in unity and team effort in our dojo. We feel that a unified school, which encourages students and teachers alike to encourage and help everyone, is very important. We believe this promotes each student’s growth, and just like in the history of this great country it is written, “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”. We will not tolerate those who degrade other people in anyway shape nor form. Our students are held to a very high standard of ethics. We teach our students to help others when they need help. We encourage students to ask questions of the instructors, as long as it is done respectfully. We feel this builds a strong unified bond between everyone involved, and helps everyone grow as a person and Karate student.
Karate is truly a way of life. The confidence, control, discipline, awareness, strength, humility, and courage that Karate helps build in a person is unsurpassed. This truly can mold a person into a great human being.
